It seems that for the past 5 years or so in the NFL that there’s a new hot shot Quarterback that seems to be dominating the league i.e. Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, RG3 and now we have Lamarr Jackson who’s in his 2nd year in the NFL playing with the Baltimore Ravens who have been very hot so far going 10-2 at the time of this blog. However many people have been overlooking a Quarterback who has been doing more with less but is just a tad less flashy, His name is Russell Wilson. You might be thinking “Oh Great another hit piece on Lamarr” but that’s not what this is, this is to show that Wilson is more deserving of the MVP award than Jackson because of the definition of MVP. So let’s take a look at the numbers shall we?
Looking at those numbers you would think that of course Russell Wilson deserves the MVP over Jackson, but most sports pundits would disagree because Jackson has the flashier play style but most of them forget that Russell Wilson would also be playing a bit flashier if he had the 4th ranked offensive line and the 4th ranked defense. See the MVP stands for Most Valuable Player, not just too the league itself but to their team and I can’t think of any one who sets that example more than Russell Wilson as comparatively he’s been dragging analog computers to a 10-2 record while Jackson has gotten comfortable using the brand new Mac’s.
We need to bring the true definition of MVP to football, it’s a singular player award not a team award. The League is already suffering enough from undefined rules and refball, let’s not let our awards remain undefined.
